This patient presented as a young man in his 20's with a dental condition known as Dentogenesis imperfecta. It may also be called DI for short. It is a genetic condition that affects the formation of the dentin, and the strength of the fusion between the enamel of the tooth and the dentin. This creates teeth that are very susceptible to cavities, chipping and breaking. Patients with DI will often have abnormally short roots, and significant wear.
The quality of this patient's care is critical to get right, because he is looking at a full reconstruction at a young age, and will almost certainly need revisions in the coming decades. So doing this precisely, and thoughtfully was so important.
Like all advanced reconstruction treatment - we started with a smile design prototype. This is a great time for our patient to give us vital feedback about what they like, and what is important to them. From there, we opened his bite to create space for crowns and completed crowns on his upper and lower teeth. Notice the amazing change to his smile, and the new support to his back teeth. You may also notice, we did not do crowns on some of his lower front teeth. This was the patient's decision to minimize treatment to these teeth and try to maintain them until they eventually need crown treatment.
Always an honor to treat people like this, and give them this life changing result. ❤️
